Craft Show Tips, Ideas, and Suggestions
  • How To Apply To Craft Shows : Crafts Shows are divided into two categories : juried and non-juried. Juried craft shows are more selective and usually require photos and detailed descriptions of the crafts that you sell. Entry fees can range from $15 to thousands of dollars. Visit the craft show website and download their craft show applications. Some require photos of your craft display in the form of slides or as a CD

  • Making A Catchy Craft Show Display : Presenting your crafts flat on a table is not very eye catching to craft buyers. Contract a woodworker to construct a display that elevates your crafts, so you not only can display more crafts in a small area, but be able to attract the attention of craft buyers walking through crowded isles at craft shows.

Use models to visually explain to craft buyers how to display your crafts or to show that your crafts fit a given subject. For instance, if you make doll clothing, have doll models wear your handmade doll clothing.

We suggest enlisting help to set up your items because many craft show spaces are a long walk from where you can unload from a vehicle. If you have medical issues or are disabled, many craft fair promoters will provide a craft space that is close to where your vehicle is parked. Some craft shows only provide a small window of time for craft vendors to set up, so bringing a partner will help you meet the deadlines placed upon you at a craft show.

  • Making Craft Show Sales : Price your products competitively according to the quality of your merchandise. Many crafters bag their products in plastic shopping bags saved throughout the year from personal visits to the grocery store. Be sure bring plenty of small change. Be careful with customers who use large bills to pay for small priced items or large sales made with personal checks. You may want to invest in a portable credit card machine. Making sales policies and sticking to them will help keep you be safe from conartists.

  • Assessing A Craft Show's Success : Don't be discouraged you do not make as much as you would like at a craft show. Possibly being moved to a higher traffic location will make all of the difference. After you attend a few of the same shows and become a loyal crafter, you are usually able to ask to be moved. Some craft shows do better than other for other reasons, so assessing a craft show's success over multiple experiences is advisable.

    Types of Craft Shows
  • Bazaars / Flea Market : These are small crafting venues where crafters and shoppers are looking to bargain.
  • Festivals and Fairs : Craft fairs and festivals tend to attract a large number of craft customers, but crafters must compete with other activities, such as rides and food vendors.
  • Arts & Craft Shows : These are large crafting events organized by craft promotion companies with large craft show advertising budgets and also charge hefty fees for craft vendors to take part in their events. These craft promoters jury the craft vendors that apply in order to provide an attractive selection of truly handmade crafts.

  • Where to Find Crafts Shows
  • Online Craft Show Directories : Most require a fee to submit and view crafting events, but our craft show directory is completely free for everyone. We only charge for a listing on our opening page.
  • Newspapers : Most local craft show promoters will advertise crafting events in the local newspapers. This method of advertising a craft show is mostly used to attract customers, so you may want to still visit the craft show to see if it fits your craft show style.
  • Talk to Crafters : Most crafters are always ready to suggest craft shows they enjoy and successfully sell their craft items.
