The History of Handmade Greeting Card Making Industry :

Historians recognize the Chinese people as the first handmade greeting card makers with their exchanging of written well wishes for the New Year. Later, the Egypt ions printed handmade greeting cards onto Papyrus scrolls. In the 1400s, the Germans printed multiple greeting cards with wood chips.

It wasn't until the mid 1800s that Henry Cole sparked the modern day greeting card making movement. For years Cole handwrote Christmas wishes for his friends and family. However in 1843, he paid someone in the Royal Academy to use a lithograph to print out a thousand cards for him to easily bestow on friends and family. From this point, exchanging cards at such holidays as Christmas, Valentine's Day and birthdays immediately spread all over the world.

Today Hallmark sells 12 million greeting cards every minute. However, some card making artists add unbelievable creativity and artistry into their work from their own home workshops.
