Family Tree Valentine

Display the love in your family with a family tree valentine that looks like a box of heart shaped candies. Each heart contains a married couple in your family tree. The best valentine ever for your parents or grandparents or a future bride in your family tree.

Materials Needed

1. Construction Paper (pink, white colored paper)

2. Red tissue paper

3. White yarn

4. Glue (elmers glue and tacky glue)

5. Scissors

Instructions

1. Count how many marriages you want to included in your family tree valentine. We grouped hearts by the marriages of parents, 2 sets of grandparents, and the aunts and uncles for each family side.

2. Draw lines in pencil connecting the marital hearts of your family tree. Use your tacky glue bottle to trace the lines. Finally, lay white yarn on the trails of tacky glue.

3. Draw a heart around your hearts with a pencil. Add glue and then crumple up pieces of scrap red tissue paper. Glue the pieces to your big heart.

4. Fold the excess red tissue paper up towards the heart and crinkle it so each hearts has the appearance of a piece of wrapped candy.

5. Once you have spaced your hearts to form a large box of candy hearts, glue the hearts to the pink paper.

6. Lay the hearts on your background piece of pink paper. Position them in the shape of a heart with the parents at the bottom, grandparents above the parents. Finally the hearts representing the marital unions of your aunts and uncles form the humps

7. Glue the white hearts to the center of the red tissue paper hearts.

8. Write on each white heart the name of the bride + the name of the groom. Then write the last name and year of their wedding under that. You may want to photocopy small wedding pictures the couples in each heart as another option.

9. Cut out the same number of red hearts. When we make our hearts we fold the paper in half and cut out one have the folded heart. The red tissue paper heart should be appoximately 1 inch larger on each side compared to the white heart.

10. Cut out an equal number of white hearts for each family marriage coupling in your family tree.

11. Now you have a spectacular family tree valentine that will be a family treasure as a gift for a new bride or grandma.
