Egg Carton Dreidel

Easy to make dreidel, a four sided top used to play a famous Hanukkah game. Made from the cup of an egg carton, paint this top and then mark each of the four sides with four letters of the hebrew alphabet : nun, gimel, hei, and shin. Have lots of holiday Hanukkah fun making the dreidel and then play the dreidel game for hours.

Materials Needed

1. Egg Carton

2. Tempra paints (light blue)

3. Paint brush

4. Sharpened pencil - preferably with blue outer shell

5. Marker

6. M&Ms or beans

Instructions

1. Cut out one of the cups from an egg carten. Try to make it as even as possible, so your handmade dreidal will spin effectively.

2. Paint your egg carton cup a light blue color. Blue is a traditional color used for Hanukkah festivities.

3. Once your paint dries divide the egg cup into four sides.

4. Using a black marker, write the four hebrew letters : nun, gimel, hei, and shin - one for each opposing side.

5. Using a skewer or sharp object, punch a hole in to the bottom of your cup. An adult should perform this step for young children.

6. Poke your sharpened pencil through the hole.

7. Lay a piece of white paper down and then spin your handmade dreidle to play the traditional Hanukkah game played by young Jewish children for centries. Many histories state that Jewish children played this game as a diversion when they were not perm
