Instructions To Make A Patriotic Paper Plate Turtle Puppet :
1. Lay your two paper plates face down so you see the white part. Paint or color the top, which will be the background for your turtle shell. We colored our paper plate brown, but let the kids use their imaginations.
2. Draw five point stars on blue construction paper, then cut them out. Do the same for red and white stripes. Then lay them in a design across your turtle shell and then glue them into place.
3. Draw the head, four limbs, and a triangle for a tail out of hte same colored paper. Glue the funny craft eyes to the head of your turtle.
4. staple, glue or tape the four feet to the bottom of your top shell, so that when you put the two halves of the turtle body together, the turtle legs will be attached and sandwiched between.
5. Take one of the sipping straws and cut about one inch off the the top. Lay the small sipping straw piece across the second full length sipping straw (about 1 inch from the top). Affix the small straw piece in place by wrapping tape around it.
6. Cut a piece of tape and fold it over to make it double sided. Lay it across the top of the small straw piece. Now lay the bottom end of your turtle head on that to fasten it to the straw cross. This will serve to keep the head from fully shooting
7. Now lay the head, attached to the straws, between the shell and the belly. Staple the paper plates together, so that the plates stay together and that the head is stopped from being extended further from its body.
8. Turn the turtle over on its back. Cut out a triangle shape in the bottom half opposite the tale. This opening will enable the puppeteer to control the turtle head bobbing up and down.
