2. To hide the unkept edges, cut strips of paper that can be folded and pasted to your chess board forming a border.
3. Paste the pieces in an alternativing fashion over your cardboard base. When finished, you should have 8 rows and columns.
4. Cut out 64 quares that are at least an inch larger than your cubes. Make 32 of a light color and 32 of a darker color.
5. For the board, we used the cardboard from an large empty pizza box.

7. You will need to make 16 chess pieces for each side. For each side you will need (1) King, (1) Queen, (2) Bishops, (2) Knights, (2) Rooks, and (8) Pawns.
8. Forming the cube or box, bring two opposing legs together and glue or tap them into place. Then add each additional leg until you have formed the cube.
9. Fold and crease around the perimeter of the central or inner square. Then fold and crease each leg of the square inward toward the center square, so that you have a crease surround each of the 5 intersecting squares.
10. Cut around the perimeter of the shape you have created that should recemble the shape of a cross with 5 segments intersecting each other.
11. We suggest making each square with 1 inch long sides.
12. Using your ruler make 5 squares vertically and 5 squares horizontally that intersect.
13. Now you are ready to play one of the oldest board games that chess players still work tirelessly to master today.
